Burning fossil fuels emits local pollution affecting air quality. To help tackle this we have created a fuel oil that can cut soot emissions from oil-burning factories by up to 75%. And our coal gasification technology transforms coal into synthesis gas that burns as cleanly as natural gas to produce energy. www.shell.com

The Siemens ST-5 solar panel I purchased off eBay. This is a thin-film panel based on CIS (Copper Indium Selenium) technology Siemens developed in the late 1990's vs the more common amorphous silicon type solar cells. Compared to the amorphous silicon thin film cells, these supposedly would take the heat better and had a higher conversion efficiency; up to 20% was measured in laboratory tests. The Siemens solar division was later bought out by Shell Oil corp in 2002 which continued to produce these until sometime in 2006 when they suddenly discontinued the line (unfortunately). This is the 5 watt version and the smallest one that was available from Siemens. The nominal current rating as listed on the back was 320millamps at 15.6 volts DC (Open circuit was around 20 volts) which was more than enough to charge a cell phone and a iPod. It would also run a radio directly but did not have the "muscle" to operate the CD player portion of the radio. I'm planning to get more of these soon and parallel them to charge the two deep cycle batteries that I have for "12 volt room" so I can finally go "off grid"

Shell Eco-marathon s always attract a diverse mix of design and technology and the Shell Eco-marathon Asia is no exception. While the vast majority of vehicles are gasoline powered, there have been some notable exceptions such as Nanyang Technological University in Singapore who have brought a solar prototype vehicle. For them, the rainy season might be an extra challenge. Ng Heong Wah, Nanyang Technological University, "We tend to rely on the weather and from the forecast we know it will be stormy in the afternoon si we try to get a window of bright sunshine to go out and do our attempts. So that's the problem now." Team 28 from Pakistan NAVY ENGINEERING COLLEGE have another first for Shell Eco-marathon. Umair Tariq, Pakistan Navy Engineering College, "This car is on exhibition because it's totally wi-fi. A remote controlled car. And we have used wi fi for several motors so we control each and every thing. Our turning is through this, our throttle is through this, and our braking is through this -- so everything is through this joystick. Our driver is sitting inside and just hold this, turning, throttling and brakes, everything he's doing just with this." Meanwhile, Malaysia University have a prototype LPG vehicle with an eco-friendly shell. Vigren A/L V. Radha, Universiti Sains Malaysia, "Usually people use fiberglass, carbon fiber, aluminum, and we wanted to do something different using natural fiber -- a specific reason we wanted to use a natural fiber is that if you ...

VVH-TV News Chief Investigative Reporter Karl Grossman interviews individuals on both sides of the Broadwater LNG Project on Long Island Sound. Shell and TransCanada Energy, two of North America's largest energy companies, have proposed building a 10-story-high, four-football-field-long (about the size of the Queen Mary cruise liner) liquid natural gas storage facility in the middle of LIS. The proposed facility would be 75 to 100 feet tall. It would be four football fields long and larger than the QE2. It would be anchored 10.5 miles from Cosey Beach Park in East Haven, about 17 miles from the Long Island Sound Ferry, and 18 miles from Hammonasset Beach. But, as most people know, the Sound is one of the most beautiful and significant bodies of water in the United States. In 1987, after Congress allocated funds for the US Environmental Protection Agency to research, monitor, and assess the water quality of the Sound, it became an Estuary of National Significance. It contains thousands of species of wildlife, and is a vital part of our nation's environment. And, it provides employment and recreational opportunities for hundreds of thousands of people throughout our region.

Friday's PBS Nightly Business Report did a segment on the problems faced by the corn ethanol industry. Not sure PBS disclosed that the program received funding from ExxonMobil... Nightly Business Report for Friday, July 17, 2009 TRANSCRIPT SUSIE GHARIB: Paul, not long ago, ethanol was considered the miracle cure for the nation`s energy problems. Companies were booming thanks to easy money and a government mandate to blend ethanol into the nation`s gasoline supply. But now many firms are scrambling just to stay in business. As we continue our look at "Reviving the Economy," Dana Bate reports the ethanol industry appears to be running on empty. DANA BATE, NIGHTLY BUSINESS REPORT CORRESPONDENT: These corn fields were once touted as the future to our energy independence. Companies sprung up around the country to produce corn-based ethanol, hoping it would fuel their bottom lines. But the industry has hit the skids. At least 10 producers have filed for bankruptcy this year. Plans to build new plants have been shelved. Sales of E-85 blends have dipped. Environmental policy expert Ken Green says the economics of ethanol have come home to roost. KEN GREEN, RESIDENT SCHOLAR, AMERICAN ENTERPRISE INSTITUTE: At the end of the day, it`s only competitive with gasoline when gasoline is very expensive and gas doesn`t stay expensive for very long. And so once the economics of it really worked their way through the system and everybody went, wow, I`m not going to make any money off of this ...

Charlie Rose interviewed Amory Lovins, CEO of Rocky Mountain Institute on November 28, 2006. Mr. Lovins is an energy expert that has been advocating energy independence since 1976. Charlie Rose (CR): What do you think of the oil companies? And for all of the political rhetoric, someone who knows where they're — where they're honest and where they're not honest and knows where they are accurate or not accurate. I mean it's a broad brush I'm asking you to paint with. (AMORY) LOVINS: Well, I worked — for and with and sometimes within the oil majors for 33 years now. CR: And therefore the answer is? LOVINS: Well, they're different. They're not all in the same tribe. And in fact, there's a big split down the middle of the industry now between those making smart investments and the rest. And. CR: If you look at advertising, you would assume that BP is one of them, and ... LOVINS: BP, Shell... CR: Shell. Shell is another because they have been... Now, would you assume that Exxon Mobil is not? LOVINS: Well. CR: Because they are. LOVINS: They... CR: ...sort of demonized as the worst? LOVINS: I'd say they're the best in the industry in execution and probably the worst in strategy. CR: What does that mean? LOVINS: Well, they do inadvisable things very efficiently. CR: That's not good for us, is it? LOVINS: Well, I don't think it's actually good for their shareholders either. But it turns out that many of their analysts have come to conclusions strikingly similar to those in our book ...

www.eco-rescue.info http How we can go green? Go where the leaders are. Get out of Facebook. Get into somebodys face. These are excerpts from Thomas Friedman, the multi-Pulitzer Prize winning New York Times columnist and author (Hot, Flat & Crowded), while speaking at Governor Schwarzeneggers Global Climate Summit 2 in Los Angeles, October 2, 2009. See book review & verbatim of excerpt below. Book Review From Barnes & Noble In his latest best-seller Hot, Flat & Crowded - Thomas Friedman, the influential New York Times Op-Ed columnist, presses his case that Green is the new Red, White, and Blue. Friedman argues that environmentalism isn't just a survival imperative; it's the best way to make America richer, more productive, and, not least, more secure. Spanning the globe, he presents case study after case study that shows that Green-oriented practices and technologies are the key to revitalizing our country and stabilizing an increasingly energy-starved world. Publishers Weekly Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman (The World Is Flat) covers familiar territory (the need for alternate energy, conservation measures, recycling, energy efficiency, etc.) as a build-up to his main thesis: the US market is the "most effective and prolific system for transformational innovation.... There is only one thing bigger than Mother Nature and that is Father Profit." While he remains ostensibly a proponent of the free market, he does not flinch from using the ...

Our driver is sitting inside and just hold this, turning, throttling and brakes, everything he's doing just with this." Meanwhile, Malaysia University have a prototype LPG vehicle with an eco-friendly shell. Vigren A/L V.
